Dr. Oscar Slotosch, founder of Validas AG, will represent Germany as delegation lead for Working Group 14, which focuses on AI safety within international ISO standardisation. The group is responsible for standards such as ISO 8800 and ISO 22440.
ISO standards are developed through global collaboration between national working groups. These groups propose updates and new standards, which are discussed and agreed upon in international meetings held twice a year.
A key topic for the upcoming WG 14 meeting in June 2025 is Appendix C of ISO 22440, which outlines how AI tools can be classified and qualified. There is currently no consensus on whether this appendix should be referenced by other standards or revised.
“This discussion is critical for ensuring a consistent and practical approach to AI tool classification across standards,” says Dr. Oscar Slotosch. “Reaching alignment at an international level will be an important step for the safe and reliable use of AI in safety-critical systems.”
The meeting will take place virtually later this year.
